Dr. Lisa Lewis began her ongoing healthy lifestyle in her late teens. One day a college friend, acknowledging Dr. Lisa's healthy habits, asked if she knew if she was structurally sound. Not sure what was meant by 'structurally sound', she asked her friend to explain. Her friend had recently been to see a chiropractor where she learned that the structure of the spinal column affects the spinal cord as well as the nerves that pass through it. The nervous system is the body's communication system; connecting the brain to every cell, tissue, organ and muscle. Any interference to this communication can cause a decrease in function and health potential.
Intrigued by this perspective on health, Dr. Lisa sought care from a well-known chiropractor. She had no specific concerns or symptoms; simply a desire to optimize her health. After a few weeks of treatment, Dr Lisa noticed her seasonal allergy symptoms were greatly minimized and that she had a greater sense of well-being with more energy and mental clarity. It was then that she realized that there was something really special about chiropractic.
This experience inspired Dr. Lisa to become a chiropractor. Pursuing this dream, she moved to Marietta, GA to study at Life Chiropractic College (now Life University www.life.edu/ ). She graduated in 1983 and, in 1984, married fellow chiropractic classmate, Dr. Rich Lewis. After their marriage, they settled in Scituate, Massachusetts and opened Lewis Family Chiropractic. In 2003, two years after the death of her husband, Dr. Lisa sold the practice and turned her focus to raising her three children.
In late 2004, Dr. Lisa began providing coverage for chiropractors on maternity leave, vacation, sick or injured. This experience gave her the opportunity to expand her repertoire of methods and to work with a greater variety of patient needs. In June of 2009, she joined the team at Wholebody Solutions in Quincy, leaving that practice in January of 2011 to start Cohasset Family Chiropractic.
A strong commitment to continuing education allows Dr. Lisa to stay current with best practices to provide state of the art chiropractic care to her patients. She is trained and proficient in a variety of traditional and gentle chiropractic techniques, all safe, natural and effective.
Dr. Lisa loves to dance, cycle, hike, cross-country ski, practice yoga, play Mah Jongg and enjoy the local beaches. Her ongoing curiosity about interpersonal communication and conflict resolution led her to becoming a trained mediator and to an extensive study of Non-Violent Communication. www.cnvc.org/
She is a member of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society, Massachusetts Alliance for Chiropractic Philosophy, International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, League of Chiropractic Women, Rotary Club of Cohasset and the South Shore Women's Business Network. Dr Lisa volunteers her services at Rosie’s Place in Boston as part of the Boston Benevolent Chiropractic Clinics team.
